mad.co.uk - terms and conditions
1. Access and Use
mad.co.uk is split into three sections. Areas that are:
- Accessible to all
- Accessible to registered users. In order to gain access to these areas, an online registration form must be completed.
- Accessible to paying subscribers only. For these areas, a valid mad.co.uk subscription must be held by the user. mad.co.uk subscriptions are sold on a single and multiple user basis, and should be used as such. mad.co.uk Full Access and mad.co.uk Express are single license subscriptions, and must only be used by the named user.
If it is found that there is multiple usage of a single license subscription, this is considered to be a breach of license, and the subscription will be terminated immediately.
mad.co.uk Corporate and mad.co.uk Academic subscriptions are sold as multiple user licenses, and should be used according to the agreement made when the subscription is set up. - Complimentary online access to print magazine subscribers
In order to gain access to their relevant magazine website, print magazine subscribers must activate their subscription by registering on mad.co.uk. This access is strictly limited for the use of the named subscriber only. - Complimentary online access to other specified groups. There are certain professional bodies and associations whose members get discounted access to mad.co.uk.
mad.co.uk reserves the right to change which areas of the site are registration controlled, and which areas are accessible to paying subscribers only.
The material on the Site including, but not limited to the text, photos and graphics reproduced on it are protected by copyright, other intellectual property rights and all analogous rights.
The Site is owned by Centaur Media PLC. (Centaur) and neither the whole nor any part of it may be reproduced other than by downloading and viewing on a single CPU, and/or printing a single hard copy, for private or internal business use only. It is not to be otherwise reproduced, transmitted, or made available on a network, without the prior written permission of Centaur. All other rights are reserved.
The trade marks, logos and service marks shown on the Site, unless otherwise specified are the trade marks of Centaur. No rights are granted to use any of them without the written permission of Centaur. Centaur may at any time modify these terms and conditions. Any modifications will become effective on either the posting of the modified terms and conditions on the Site or notification to you.
2. Restrictions on Use
You may not use mad.co.uk for any unlawful purpose. Except as expressly set out above, you may not copy, reproduce, publish, broadcast, transmit, modify, adapt, create derivative works of, store, archive, publicly display or in any way commercially exploit any of the mad.co.uk content. Without limitation, you may not do any of the following without prior written permission from mad.co.uk (and neither may you allow a third party to do any of the same):
- redistribute any of the mad.co.uk content, including our headlines (including by using it as part of any syndication, content aggregation, news aggregation, library, archive or similar service); or
- remove the copyright or trade mark notice from any copies of mad.co.uk content made under these terms and conditions; or
- create a database in electronic or structured manual form by systematically and/or regularly downloading/printing and storing all or any of the mad.co.uk content; or
- deep link to, frame, spider, harvest or scrape the mad.co.uk content or otherwise access the mad.co.uk content for similar purposes; or
- use any machine, electronic, web based or similar device to read or extract the mad.co.uk content by automated or machine based means.
3. Paid for Subscriptions
mad.co.uk reserves the right to vary the areas of the site that are paid for, those that are to be registered for, and those that are free-of-charge.
4. mad.co.uk Subscriptions
We offer the following paid for subscriptions to mad.co.uk:
- mad.co.uk Full Access - these are sold on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. This is an individual license, and must only be used by the named user.
- mad.co.uk Corporate - these are sold as an annual subscription only. This a provides a multiple user license, starting at five users or more.
- mad.co.uk Academic - these are sold as an annual subscription only. mad.co.uk Academic subscriptions are only open to college / university staff and full time under-graduate students.
Any improper use of any subscription or breach of license, will result in immediate termination of the subscription with no refunds forthcoming. No refunds will be given if the subscriber does not use the service for the whole of the subscription period.
5. mad.co.uk free trials
A 7-day free trial is available to all new subscribers to mad.co.uk. This enables users to access the site before making any commitment to a paid subscription. To take up your 7-day free trial, you need to follow the subscriptions process on our website, entering in all your details and choosing a payment plan. This is so that your chosen subscription can begin automatically should you continue beyond the trial period. You will have immediate access to mad.co.uk as soon as you submit your free trial request, and you will be sent a confirmation email.
There is no obligation to continue a subscription beyond the free 7-day trial period. You can cancel at any time within the 7 days by emailing: customerservices@mad.co.uk. Your subscription will be cancelled and no payments will be taken. For all cancellations you will receive email confirmation of your cancellation within 24 hours. If you do not receive a confirmation, you must contact us urgently via email or telephone, as your request may not have been received. You can contact our Customer Services team on: 020 7970 4789.
If you decide not to cancel within the 7 days, your paid subscription will automatically begin, and your first payment will be debited at the end of the 7th day of your free trial, according to the payment plan you have chosen. For details of how to cancel paid subscriptions, please see section 6.
6. Payments
When you subscribe to mad.co.uk, you must provide us with complete and accurate payment information. You can pay by either credit or debit card. By submitting credit or debit card payment details to mad.co.uk, you agree to purchase a subscription using those payment details and on a continuous authority basis. Continuous authority means mad.co.uk will continue taking subscription payments until you tell us you no longer wish to subscribe. To cancel your continuous authority agreement, you must do so in writing by email or post. You can contact us in the following ways:

It is important that you include your full name, the email address you are registered with and details of the subscription you wish to cancel. You will receive written confirmation that your continuous authority agreement has been cancelled.
Any older browser versions may work but users could have limited browsing experience. Any payment information you send to us over the Internet is encrypted using 128 bit Secure Socket Layer technology. SSL is currently the preferred method to securely transfer credit card data over the Internet.
7. Refunds
We do not offer refunds on susbcriptions to mad.co.uk.
If we do not receive payment authorisation or any authorisation is subsequently cancelled, we may immediately terminate or suspend your access to any subscription content.
8. Privacy
Please refer to the Privacy policies.
9. Warranty and Liability
Centaur has used reasonable care and skill in compiling the content of the Site but neither it nor any third-party content provider makes any warranty, express or implied, as to the nature or accuracy of any material on the Site.
Centaur cannot accept liability (including liability for any indirect loss or loss of profits or turnover) for any particular material or the result of any use made of it.
10. Choice of Law and Jurisdiction
These terms and conditions shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, English law.
To the extent possible in the applicable jurisdiction, the parties irrevocably agree that the courts of England shall (subject to the paragraph below) have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute which may arise out of, under, or in connection with these terms and conditions, and for those purposes irrevocably submit all disputes to the jurisdiction of the English courts.
For the exclusive benefit of mad.co.uk and to the extent possible in the applicable jurisdiction, mad.co.uk shall retain the right to bring proceedings as to the substance of the matter in the courts of the country of your residence or, where these terms and conditions are entered into in the course of your trade or profession, the country of the place of business in which you agreed to these terms and conditions or (if different) the country of your principal place of business.
11. Email Alerts
By subscribing to mad.co.uk you are agreeing to receive regular email communications which form part of your subscription package. We will also keep you informed of mad.co.uk offers and promotions, relevant to you by email and by post. To stop receiving emails from mad.co.uk, click on the relevant unsubscribe links in the emails you receive.

13. Changes to Terms and Conditions
mad.co.uk’s Terms and Conditions were last updated 25th January 2008. These replace any Terms and Conditions in existence before this time. mad.co.uk reserves the right to vary or amend these Terms and Conditions at any time without notice. Any such variation or amendment to these Terms and Conditions will be posted here.
